A Visual Immersion into The Art of Capturing The Perfect Moment…

Oussama Hamama, born in Rabat, is a Moroccan journalist and a graduate of ISIC (Higher Institute for Media and Communications) in audiovisual journalism. He has loved writing since a young age, and his strong inclination for content creation led him to publish numerous articles and blogs on various platforms, including the IJNET website (International Center for Journalists), Hespress online newspaper, Al Jazeera Institute ’s Journalism Magazine, HuffPost Arabic, Al Jazeera Blogs, and the Zawaya blog. In 2019, Oussama won first prize in the “Article of the Year” category at the Morocco Web Awards competition for young Moroccan online creators. His interest in visual arts is reflected in his creative approach to expression and his unique perspective on the world.

His passion for photography took flight during his time at the Journalism Institute in Rabat, where he was mentored by academic researcher and photographer Jaafar Akil. He also had the opportunity to participate in field workshops and artistic visits during which he could engage directly with the works of prominent Moroccan photographers, such as Noureddine El Ghoumari, Leila Ghandi, Abdel-Fattah Hamouda, and the late Laila Alaoui. Oussama’s photography work spans both artistic photography and professional photojournalism. His experience in photojournalism includes covering numerous events, beginning with the USAID Civil Society Forum, followed by other notable events: The National Podcast Forum organized by the Tanmia Association, the Intercultural University Forum at Moulay Ismail University in Meknès, the international “Mata” Festival in Asilah, the Turk-Arab Youth Congress in Istanbul, among others. He has shared his photographic work on the “Midan Lens” page, a branch of Al Jazeera Media Network, and a portrait of the late artist Tayeb Saddiki was published in CasaMémoire magazine.

Even while often busy with institutional communications work, he has never ceased practicing his favorite hobby regularly. In February 2023, his work was featured in the collective exhibition “Women in the City”, organized by the Prometheus Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, addressing women’s experiences in public spaces. Oussama is currently working on a photography project that seeks to revisit Morocco’s most significant historical monuments and tourist destinations through a purely personal lens, using both mobile and professional cameras. He approaches his craft pragmatically, prioritizing the quality of the shot over the tools used, believing that the true value of an image lies in its emotional impact and the space it occupies in our memories. Along the way, he is convinced that every picture is a frozen moment,.. a visual frame captured by time, preserving its beauty in our minds over the years.
